Do you remember the scene in the movie ‘Home Alone’ where Kevin McCallister goes grocery shopping and confidently tells the clerk that he has a coupon for everything? Well, that same grocery shopping trip would cost a lot more today due to inflation. In 1990, Kevin was able to buy a full cart of groceries for just $19.83, US but in 2023, it would cost a whopping $72.28. Just a little shy of 100 bucks Canadian! A significant increase in price either way would make anyone feel uneasy about their spending! It seems that the saying “more money, more problems” applies even to child prodigies in the art of booby-trapping. Inflation is the Wet Bandit we never saw coming; Kevin’s wallet took a bigger hit than Harry and Marv’s faces.
