First Bitcoin and now this? I’m trying to wrap my head around the value of digital collectibles called NFT Art. NFT stands for non-fungible tokens, the value of limited-edition digital collectibles is going through the roof
Imagine buying an original Mona Lisa but not actually owning THE Mona Lisa. Imagine buying a record of music that you actually own but you can’t hold it or see it. Bear with me here…
Typically when you buy something you get to physically hold it in your hands. smell it, feel it and see it in front of you. The alternative is owning a COPY of something you pay for by downloading or streaming it from the internet.
Example: Jack Dorsey (founder of Twitter) is selling the very first tweet ever sent on the platform, and the expectation is it will reach $2.5 million.
Using NFT’s you can buy this Tweet from Jack Dorsey. You buy it and belongs to you and no one else can have it. But in all reality, it’s probably just a Screenshot JPG with authenticity from the Twitter guy for millions of dollars.
Kings of Leon just dropped a new album. And they are offering something interesting. Rather than downloading their new music from a streaming service. You actually have a collection of the songs made by the band much like you would after buy it in a music store on a cd or vinyl record, only this is all….digital and that digital content might actually be worth something someday. Unlike all those playlists on Spotify or the songs, you paid from the now-extinct Apple Itunes.
Clear as mud? Good.
