Trendy Gen Z and Millennial names that once dominated every playground shout-out are now taking a back seat in the baby-naming bus. The New York Post reports that baby naming experts have noticed a decline in millennial and Gen Z names among the latest batch of bubs.
The Social Security registry is seeing fewer and fewer of the names that define a generation as newer parents opt for something a little fresher. Perhaps future Johnnys and Janes will look back at us with the same amusement we reserve for Mildreds and Herberts. It’s a cycle of life; today’s cool and edgy is tomorrow’s quaint and dated.
In an ever-rotating carousel of cultural relevance, we seem to be just one Tik-Tok trend away from becoming the ‘old-fashioned’ ones. If you’re a Gen Z’er and feeling a tad irrelevant – welcome to the club, the elders have been expecting you with open arms and, possibly, a casserole. Today’s ‘cool’ is tomorrow’s ‘classic,’ I guess. Bring on the next wave of baby names!
