New bank notes featuring the face of King Charles III were revealed on Tuesday by the Bank of England & by the middle of 2024, notes depicting the king will circulate. There will be no change to the legal tender status of Queen Elizabeth II’s bills, so the public should continue to use money featuring her and her son, Prince Charles.
There are about 4.5 billion Bank of England notes bearing the image of the queen in circulation at the moment. Based on BBC estimates, this amounts to about £80 billion or $132 billion. Whether and when the Government of Canada will issue new bills and coins featuring Charles’ image remains to be seen.
