The title and release date
Throughout Swift’s life, she has experienced “13 sleepless nights”, and on Oct. 21, “Midnights” explores that experience. Aside from that, the singer revealed the story behind the album:
“We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t – right this minute – about to make some fateful life-altering mistake. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that just maybe when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves.”
Fans are also intrigued by the release date. It just so happens that Harry Styles’ upcoming film, “My Policeman,” comes out on Oct. 21, which is also Kim Kardashian’s birthday. Because Swift shares a history with both stars, fans wonder if this was intentional.
The tracklist
The album will have 13 tracks, ironically Swift’s favourite number, divided into two sides, Side A and Side B. Side A will have six tracks and Side B will have seven. There isn’t a tracklist announced yet, but it is shorter than the singer’s last re-recording, “Red (Taylor’s Version).”
Swift fans have already begun to speculate about what the album will address, with some predicting it will touch on themes found in prior albums like “mirrorball,” “Forever Winter (Taylor’s Version),” “evermore (feat. Bon Iver)” and “hoax
It’s believed that the tracks are a sister album to “Lover,” which was originally going to be called “Daylight” before Swift’s changes. As the first Easter egg for the album, many believe that the “Midnights” tracks will be from “Lover.” Many have pointed out that her Jimmy Fallon interview was the inspiration for the album’s title.
During the interview, Swift asked, “How far in advance is too far?” Swifties believe this album has been in the works since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last but not least, many fans are worried that this could be Swift’s last album once the “Midnights” era ends since she has released back-to-back projects since the year 2020. It would be great if this were not the case, but let’s be honest, Ms. Swift has been very busy for the last three years.
